Worked example — How big is a box room in litres

Problem

How big, in litres, is a $3\times 3\times 2$ metre box room?

Solution

Step 1 — Volume in cubic metres. The volume of the room is the product of the three dimensions:

$V = 3\cdot 3\cdot 2 = 18\;\text{m}^3$

Step 2 — Conversion to litres. Recalling that $1\;\text{m}^3 = 1000\;\text{L}$:

$\ev{V = 18\;\text{m}^3 = 18\,000\;\text{L}}$

It is practically the same amount the tap in the previous exercise pours in 3 days!
