Problem

Dipole and test charge. Two charges +q=+5  nC+q=+5\;\text{nC} and q=5  nC-q=-5\;\text{nC} are separated by d=4  cmd=4\;\text{cm} along the horizontal segment. A small test charge qp=+1  nCq_p=+1\;\text{nC} of mass m=11012  kgm=1\cdot 10^{-12}\;\text{kg} is placed at point PP, equidistant L=10  cmL=10\;\text{cm} from the two ends of the dipole as shown in the figure.

(a) Draw the two fields E+\vec{E}_+ and E\vec{E}_- at PP and their resultant. (b) Calculate the magnitude of the total field EPE_P at PP. (c) Estimate the speed that the test charge, released from rest, would reach when the potential has dropped by ΔV=1  mV\Delta V=1\;\text{mV} from its value at PP.
