Two resistors can be combined in two fundamental ways: in series (one after the other, carrying the same current) or in parallel (side by side between the same two nodes, with the same voltage across them). In both cases the pair behaves as a single equivalent resistance , computable with a precise rule. When the network is neither purely in series nor purely in parallel, it is reduced one group at a time by progressive simplification.
