When a network cannot be reduced to simple series and parallel combinations, more general tools are needed: Kirchhoff’s two laws, which translate into equations the conservation of charge (at the nodes) and of energy (around the loops). With them, any circuit, however intricate, becomes a linear system of equations in the branch currents.
