Maxwell resolves the capacitor paradox with an insight: a time-varying electric field produces a magnetic field, exactly as a varying magnetic field produces an electric field. He thus adds to Ampère’s law the displacement current term. This section introduces the correction and then puts it to the test by computing the real field B\vec{B} that arises inside a capacitor while it charges.
