Solution
Natural units . The distance is ~sl.
(1) Speed to arrive on time. He must cover ~sl in laboratory time ~s:
(2) Speed to arrive 5 s early. Now the available time is ~s:
(3) Proper time. On Rossi’s watch the proper time elapsed is (the invariant between departure and arrival, with ~sl): Travelling faster (to arrive early) shortens the proper time: this is time dilation as seen from the traveller’s point of view.
