Time dilation, length contraction and the relativity of simultaneity seem, taken one at a time, harmless ingredients; but combined they generate situations that appear contradictory. These are the celebrated relativistic paradoxes: contradictions that are only apparent, and that vanish as soon as the theory is applied carefully. Here we tackle two of them, both built around a very fast train, which test our intuition about simultaneity and the rigidity of bodies.
