Problem

Two thermostats at temperatures T1>T2T_1 > T_2 are put in thermal contact and exchange an amount of heat QQ. Starting from the formulas ΔSterm=Q/Tterm\Delta S_\text{term} = Q/T_\text{term}, show that the condition ΔStot0\Delta S_\text{tot} \ge 0 implies that heat QQ flows from the hot thermostat to the cold one. Specify the limiting case where ΔStot=0\Delta S_\text{tot} = 0.
