Electrostatics studies the forces between stationary charged bodies. The electrostatic force is enormously more intense than gravity and governs the structure of matter: it is the force that holds atoms and molecules together. This chapter introduces electric charge, Coulomb’s law with its superposition principle, the condition for electrostatic equilibrium, and electrostatic potential energy, which extends the energy method to charged particles.
